Chickenpox is a contagious disease caused by viral infection. The onset of chickenpox is quite abrupt. The prodromal symptoms are mild or moderate fever, pain in the back, shivering and malaise. It lasts about two to three weeks but persons with weak immunity or new borns are feared to several fatal complications such as encephalitis, pneumonia.

There are several ways that aim at managing chickenpox at home itself. Self-care at home of chickenpox is what being studied by most of the physicians. Self-care at home of chickenpox starts by care shown to the patients by their attendants. Several ways that materialize this agenda are given below—
• Individuals should be advised to avoid scratching of the rashes. Since the dirt at the fingernail may aggravate the infection. Thus resulting in serious damage to the skin. Scratching of the rashes may also cause scar formation over the skin. This may also slow down the healing process. If hard to resist particular individual from scratching, it is advisable to cut the fingernail short so as to lessen the extent of their damage on the skin.
• Taking plenty of rest may be probably good solution to most of the infections caused. Foods that are too spicy or acidic or even crunchy foods are to be avoided.
• Drinking fluids with measured amount of salt and sugar may be useful in replenishing the lost salts through dehydration. Bland diets can be helpful in avoiding sores that develop in the mouth.
• Treating the rashes with sandalwood oil or calamine lotion may be advised.
