Contagiousness of chickenpox

Chickenpox is an illness that is common among children. This is caused by VZV. A person affected with chickenpox will have red itchy spots all over his body. The contagiousness of chicken pox is very high. Mostly it spreads from the person infected with this disease, who coughs, sneezes or shares drinks or foods. It will also spread if we touch the fluid of the chickenpox blister. A person with this disease can spread the VZV before they recognize any of the symptoms of chickenpox. It mostly spreads before two to three days of the appearance of the rash and the spreading continues until the blisters crust over. A person is at high risk for chickenpox if he never had this illness and the chickenpox vaccine.

The contagiousness of chickenpox can be reduced by keeping the infected person out from office or schools until he gets completely cured. Household cleaners like dettol should be used to wash materials grimed with fluids of chickenpox blisters. Infected persons should stay away from other people. They should also ensure that they wash their legs and hands after using bathroom. The most recommended way to reduce the contagiousness of chickenpox is by injecting the chickenpox vaccine. Doctors recommend this vaccine among kids when they are one year old. This vaccine is effective in preventing the severe forms of infection. Children who had the chickenpox need not be injected with this vaccine as they will get lifelong protection against this illness. Hence by creating awareness about this vaccination among people, the contagiousness and severe forms of this disease will be contracted.
